Travel problems in Chinese: missed stops, refunds and lost bags
Everything on this page is a sentence you hope never to use, which is exactly why it's worth learning: when plans break, the conversation happens fast, in Chinese, and usually while you're standing in a crowd with luggage.
The pattern behind all six situations is the same: state the problem in one short sentence, then let staff ask the follow-ups. They deal with these mishaps daily — you are not the first person to miss a stop or lose a bag, and the fix is usually shorter than you fear.

You missed your stop
You may hear
没关系，下一站下车往回坐。
Méi guānxi, xià yī zhàn xiàchē wǎng huí zuò.
It's fine — get off at the next stop and ride back.
坐过站 literally means “rode past the station”. On the metro it costs nothing but a few minutes; announcements repeat in English in most big cities, so the real fix is listening for your station. Buses are the trap — there's no announcement, which is why 到了请叫我 (tell me when we arrive) exists.

Shí fēnzhōng hòu yǒu yì bān.
There's one in ten minutes.
班 (bān) is the measure word for scheduled services — buses, trains, ferries — so this one question covers all of them. At a station, check the departure boards too: they show delays and platform changes before any staff member tells you.

Refund a ticket you can't use
You may hear
可以退，收百分之五手续费。
Kěyǐ tuì, shōu bǎifēnzhī wǔ shǒuxùfèi.
You can refund it — there's a 5% fee.
Refunds happen at the staffed window (人工窗口) with the passport you booked under — the ticket is tied to it. High-speed rail fees scale with how close to departure you cancel, and tickets bought in the 12306 app can be refunded in the app itself, in English.

Demagnetised or time-expired key cards are routine and the front desk fixes them in a minute. Before you walk down again, try the card in the slot inside the door: many Chinese hotel rooms cut all power until the card sits there, which feels exactly like a broken card.

Lost luggage at the airport

Do you have your luggage ticket? Show me.
The lost-luggage desk sits in the arrivals hall by the carousels, and the claim tag — the 行李票 sticker or the barcode on your boarding pass stub — is what they photograph. Hotels can receive couriered bags afterwards, which is why 可以送到酒店吗 exists on the shopping page.

你们在哪个门见面？
Nǐmen zài nǎge mén jiànmiàn?
Which gate did you agree to meet at?
门 (mén) means gate or exit, and big stations have many — agree on a numbered one, not “the entrance”. WeChat's location share solves this in seconds if you're connected; if not, the rule is that one person stays put, because two people searching rarely converge.

- 我坐过站了 (Wǒ zuò guò zhàn le) — “I rode past my stop”. On the metro, just ride back; on a bus, say it to the driver and 下一班几点 (what time is the next one?) covers the wait. The related phrase 到了请叫我 prevents the problem next time.
- How do I report lost luggage in China?
- At the airport, go to the lost-luggage desk in the arrivals hall and say 我的行李丢了 (my luggage is missing). They will ask for your luggage ticket (行李票) — the claim tag on your boarding pass — so keep it until the bag is in your hands.
